SUNouSAN

SUNouSAN

Is it SUN, or is it SAN? Because San van Nieuwburg divides her time between Schipluiden and Marseille, it's a bit of both: the French call her Sun, the Dutch call her San. Thus, she decided to embrace both versions of her name.

As a child, San always had a camera around her neck. Due to her ADHD, she sometimes found it difficult to find the right words for what she felt, while she could express herself very well in images. That has always remained the case. She still invariably carries a camera to capture every moment in all its purity.

When San wakes up in the middle of the night, she wanders. The night is a time for magic and emotions that do not show themselves during the day. In the anonymity of darkness, San manages to let her feelings run free. Fear, anger, sadness, freedom, desire, exuberance, and sensuality, they flow past in a natural stream. This makes the night confronting and liberating at the same time.

San has a deep love for polaroids because they are exciting, spontaneous, and sensitive. This makes polaroids particularly suited to capturing primary emotions and creating unique snapshots. She refers to her polaroids as her 'nightbook,' a collection of photos taken at unexpected moments.
